Beniano, Bolivia - 2017 Harvest
This extremely rare, Beniano genetic strain of cacao originally was wild harvested along the Beni River in the Bolivian Amazon by indigenous tribes (and previously called Wild Bolivian). The trees were selected for preservation and now farmers grow them on their own land. The first shipment was a "mixed bag" - certain sacks showed significant insect damage, while others were perfect. With our most recent shipment, we took care of this by purchasing the beans ourselves and centrally fermenting and drying, rather than working through a cooperative. The result is outstanding, consistent cacao, with a flavor profile of nuts, honey and brown fruits. Supplies are limited.
